Managers: recording sickness absence on BMS

It's an old adage that "you can't manage what you don't measure" -  is your BMS sickness absence recording regime accurate and up to date?

Recording sickness absence consistently and in a timely manner through BMS could help you to identify and focus on cases where an employee may need support at work to reduce or prevent further absence, or to get back to work as soon as possible to prevent their absence from becoming long term.

Data from BMS reports will also help the authority to:
  • assess its performance
  • plan support for managers to effect further improvement in absence levels across the council, including targeted interventions
  • identify trends and focus on causes of absence, such as stress, which could be reduced or may be preventable.

National Local Government Pay Award

The trade unions and employers have recently reached agreement on the national local Government Pay Award.

The agreement includes a one off lump sum payment and a 2.2% pay increase for all eligible employees.
