Internal audit for maintained schools is essential. All LA schools are required to have a professional audit of their School Budget Share account

The requirement for internal audit for academy schools is based on providing an on-going independent oversight of, and assurance concerning, the academy's financial affairs. It is recommended best practice for there to be quarterly audit checks of financial transactions.

At Nottinghamshire Internal Audit Services, we have a track record of providing schools with a professional internal audit service, which includes the auditing of grant claims, advising on financial irregularities and providing financial control advice. What we offer:

• Maintained secondary schools and colleges require an audit every 3 years, primary and special schools every 5 years, followed by the issuing of an audit report.
  
• For academies we can provide an internal audit role in fulfilment of the requirements of the 2012 Academies Financial Handbook.

Costs:

Audit time staff is charged at a standard daily rate.

Further information:

Maintained schools can choose their own audit provider. However, the chosen auditors must meet prescribed minimum standards (written guidance available on request). Where maintained schools have independent auditors, they must supply a copy of their final audit report to NCC Internal Audit.
