Governing Body Clerking Service

This service provides year round advice and guidance on all matters relating to the role of governing bodies by staff that have a wealth of experience in supporting school governors.  This includes advice and guidance on parent complaints, pupil exclusions, team working, and parent and staff governor elections.  Every governing body is legally required to appoint a governing body clerk for all its meetings. Governor Services provides schools with a high quality clerking service delivered by professionally trained clerks and supported by efficient, well organised and knowledgeable administrative staff.

What we offer:

  • Maintenance and monitoring of governing body membership, attendance, terms of office, eligibility checks and provision of welcome pack for new governors.
  • Focussed agenda produced in consultation with the headteacher and chair of governors at least 15 days before the meeting.
  • Meeting notice and papers despatched to individual governors within the legally required number of days prior to the meeting.
  • Named clerk to provide interpretation, advice and guidance on school government regulations and procedures for three meetings per year.
  • Clerk to undertake follow-up action or correspondence as instructed by the governing body.
  • Accurate, high quality minutes sent to the chair of governors within 15 working days of the meeting.
  • Correspondence handling and storage of documentation.
  • Named clerk or minuting secretary for special meetings and committee meetings.  
  • Telephone and written advice before and after meetings as required.

Training:

Clerking Pupil Discipline Committees:

To enable school administrators to understand good practice in clerking pupil discipline committee meetings.

  • 2 courses per annum at various locations throughout the county.
  • £97 per person.

Termly briefing session for school based clerks:

To update clerks on the law and procedures relating to school governance and provide good practice advice on managing governing body meetings.

  • For Governing Body Clerks employed by schools.
  • Governor Body Services will deliver training at Home Brewery, Arnold.
