Election to the Archives Users Group

Notice is given of the election of a public representative to the Nottinghamshire Archives Users Group.
Nomination for two individual seats
1. Nominations are invited from regular users of the Archives to stand for election for two seats on the Users' Group, one to serve for three years and the other for two years.
2. The User Group's objectives are outlined on the poster displayed in the Archives Seach Room and online. It meets twice a year at the Archives.
3. The Group is made up of representatives of seven interested county-wide bodies, three senior staff of the Archives, an Archivs Assistant and three individual members. One of the existing individual members is due to retire this year but is eligible for re-election; and we are also carrying a vacancy.
4. Nominations must be made on forms which can be supplied by emailing Nottinghamshire Archives: archives@nottscc.gov.uk. Nominees, proposers and seconders must all be holders of a Reader's Ticket from Nottinghamshire Archives.
5. Completed Nomination Forms must be delivered to the Team Manager Archives and Local Studies at the Archives by 4pm on Friday 14 June 2013.
6. In the event of there being more than two nominations a paper ballot will be held amongst the daily visitors during the week of 25 - 29 June 2013. Candidates will be invited to provide a short personal statement for the information of voters.

Then why not come along to one of Archives' events taking place this summer.
Our popular Wednesday Workshops focus on different records available at the Archives and which are really useful to family and local historians. This season we'll be looking at:
- Landed families and estates (15 May)
- Records of royalty (19 June)
- Apprenticeship (17 July)
- Hospitals and asylums (21 August)
Our Archive Skills Workshops give advice and hints and tips on how to use archives. In July and August we'll be looking at how to read old English and Latin handwriting in parish registers, and working out old-fashioned dates.
On 9 July Howard Heeley of Newark Air Museum will be speaking on RAF Ancestral Research and will illustrate the ancestral research principles involved in tracing wartime RAF service careers.

Have you hit a brick wall with your family history or other research? Don't know which way to turn? Nottinghamshire Archives' Research Service may be able to help.
Searches can be carried out for family, local and house history for a fee in most sources held at the Archives, including parish registers, census returns, wills and other records.
Even if your family was not Nottinghamshire based, we are able to undertake internet research for family history nationally. We have access to a wide variety of resources available on the Ancestry web site including census returns, London parish registers and the vastly improved General Register Office Indexes.
