Hucknall Town Centre Improvement Scheme
Improvements are now essential to keep Hucknall moving and to aid regeneration by making shops and local services easier to get to. These proposals will make shopping, visiting and travelling around Hucknall a more pleasurable experience and will give Hucknall town centre a new reputation in Nottinghamshire as an attractive place for living and working.
In order to do this, improvement measures are being proposed which feature the following key elements:
- An attractive pedestrianised area of High Street – between the Market Place and the junction of Watnall Road
- A new relief road between Annesley Road and Station Road to deal with displaced traffic
- A two way ‘Bus only’ link between the new relief road and High Street
- Introduction of traffic restrictions on Baker Street/South Street to link the Market Place more directly with the High Street
- General improvements to pedestrain links and enhanced landscaping
To help you imagine how the town centre will look after the completion of these proposals - artists impressions and a moving film of these are available online.
Nottinghamshire County Council and Ashfield District Council are committed to improving the environment in Hucknall town centre and promoting the continued economic recovery of the area. Nottinghamshire County Council and Ashfield District Council have been working in joint partnership to develop the scheme based on comments received from the 2004 and 2007 consultations. The scheme will be funded by the Government, the County Council and developer contributions. The delivery of the proposed improvements is subject to a successful bid for Government funding.
Why do we need these proposals?
The heart of Hucknall is in need of a boost to support it’s growing community. Getting around is becoming more difficult with increased traffic congesting the High Street.
