With the Public and Patient Involvement Forum - and the City and County joint health committee - expressing concern at the use of LIFT (local improvement finance trust) buildings, the review considered whether best practice is being applied in their development and use.

The review identified how LIFT buildings are currently used and looked at increasing access to services where buildings and facilities are not being fully utilised. It also identified potential barriers to community use of LIFT buildings, such as cost.

Members were given an opportunity at the final meeting to consider any further information about the use of LIFT buildings and to agree the final report.

19 May 2008

Members were informed of the reasons why it has not been appropriate for the County Council to lease available space at the LIFT building at Stapleford and updated on the value for money criteria the Council applies when leasing buildings.

The Commission for Architecture and the Built Environment also gave a presentation on national best practice in developing LIFT buildings. Many of the problems identified nationally were similar to those that members had experienced during the review, including difficulties with under used space. The meeting - which took place at Stapleford care centre - gave members the opportunity to hear from representatives of Nottinghamshire County teaching Primary Care Trust (tPCT), on how new services to be provided at LIFT buildings will meet local health needs and how unoccupied space can be utilised.
