The Overview and Scrutiny Committee (OSC) plans and manages the programme of scrutiny work. It considers potential items for scrutiny, provides an initial scope and sets the terms of reference for each select committee to then carry out the review.

The OSC meets every four weeks. Meetings are usually open for the public to attend. Further information - including agendas and minutes, times and venues of each meeting - can be found in the council diary.

A scrutiny briefing is also published after each meeting of the OSC.

Next meeting of the OSC: 19 January 2009, 10.30am at County Hall.

There are nine Members of the Overview and Scrutiny Committee:

  • Edward Llewellyn-Jones (Chair)
  • Yvonne Davidson (Vice-Chair)
  • John Knight (Vice-Chair)
  • Chris Winterton (Vice-Chair)
  • Ellie Lodziak
  • Joe Lonergan MBE
  • Peter Prebble
  • Andy Stewart
  • Brian Wombwell.

The lead Scrutiny Officer is Matthew Garrard, e-mail: matthew.garrard@nottscc.gov.uk

The OSC also considers requests to 'call-in' decisions made by the cabinet and is also responsible for health scrutiny in the county.

The OSC can request members of the cabinet and council officers to attend their meetings to provide information or answer questions about a particular issue, or decision. NHS bodies can also be required to attend.

Cabinet members also respond to any recommendations made by a review directly to the committee.
