About scrutiny
Scrutiny allows councillors who are not members of the cabinet to contribute to the running of the County Council. This usually involves reviewing decisions and policies to ensure that County Council services - and sometimes those of other organisations and partners - are as good as they can be.
This is led by the Overview and Scrutiny Committee, which plans the scrutiny work programme. The Overview and Scrutiny Committee sets up topic select committees - made up of councillors from all political parties and other co-opted members - to review issues of concern.
