We recognise the vibrancy, diversity, and range of services provided by the voluntary and community sector to the people of Nottinghamshire.

We support the voluntary and community sector through the provision of grant aid, contracts and support in kind. We have an annual grant aid budget of approximately £3.5 million and annually support around 500 organisations.

The voluntary and community sector and ourselves also have a strong track record of working effectively in partnership to deliver a diverse range of quality services to our communities.

These partnerships are essential to:

  • tackle the demands of learning, social and health care, culture, regeneration, sustainability, social cohesion, quality of life and lifelong learning and
  • respond to the modernising public services agenda.

The diversity of the voluntary sector in Nottinghamshire, in skills, size, and aspirations also requires a strong infrastructure that assists in:

  • delivering good quality services to the local community
  • levering in additional resources from a range of sources
  • supporting voluntary action for the benefit of the community
  • promoting good practice in volunteering
  • acting as a link between service users, providers and statutory agencies.

A range of measures to help the voluntary sector in their delivery of local services; includes:

  • a corporate Guide to Grant Aid and Application form
  • the development of in principle 3 year grant aid agreements with annual monitoring and review arrangements
  • the extension of jointly funded grant aid agreements with other main core funders e.g. district councils and Health Authorities
  • enabling resources to be delivered through local groups to support the development of Local Area Forums;
  • the development of a Code of Practice for working with the sector
  • the development of a joint Compact between the Voluntary and Community Sector and Local Authorities in Nottinghamshire (please note that only some of the district councils have signed and adopted this Code)
  • supporting and maintaining regular liaison through the Voluntary Sector Partnership Forum and the Culture & Community and Voluntary Sector Liaison Group.
