Committees
Committees allow Councillors to concentrate on specific areas of the Councils work.
The Law says that certain matters cannot be dealt with by Cabinet,
and have to be considered seperately in specialist commitees:
The Committees are:
| Name | Purpose | | Planning and Licensing Committee | Planning, Trading Standards and licensing | | Appeals Committee | Employment appeals and customer complaints | | Pensions Committee | Matters relating to the Council’s Pensions Fund | | Standards Committee | Conduct, standards and complaints | | Personnel Committee | Corporate personnel issues | | Audit Committee | Financial and audit issues | | Administration Committee | Travel and conferences, appointments to outside bodies, hospitality, electoral issues and matters relating to elections and services for councillors | | Selection Committee | Appointment of the chief executive and the heads of departments |
These areas of the Council's work are also referred to as 'regulatory,
corporate and ethical functions'.
Select
Committees
Select Committees scrutinise the council's decisions,
policies, and services. This is known as 'scrutiny'.
