Multi-member divisions
An electoral division, or division, is the name given to each small area within the County that is represented by a councillor.
Multi-member divisions are electoral divisions that have more than one councillor. They are larger than normal divisions.
Most multi-member divisions have two councillors. Hucknall is the biggest multi-member division and has three councillors.
In a two member division, voters have two votes. The two candidates with the most votes are elected. In a three member division, voters have three votes and three councillors are elected.
If you live in a multi-member division, and want to talk to your councillor, you can go to any of the councillors that represent your division.

Nottinghamshire had multi-member divisions for the first time at the 2005 election. This decision was made by the Electoral Commission. They constantly review election arrangements across the country to make sure that people are equally represented.
In 2002, the Electoral Commission looked at election arrangements in Nottinghamshire. This is called a Periodic Electoral Review. Their final recommendations were made in 2004. One of the recommendations was to introduce multi-member divisions.
