Proposed gating order for Manor Estate, Mansfield Woodhouse
The Mansfield Crime and Disorder Partnership has requested a "Gating Order" to combat problems on a number of footpaths in Mansfield Woodhouse. Many other initiatives have previously been tried, eg additional patrols, CCTV, youth schemes, Neighbourhood Watch etc. but unfortunately these have not been wholly successful.
Gating Orders are now possible because of new regulations which allow the Council to barrier-off highways (including particular footpaths) for crime reduction reasons. It is, therefore, proposed to barrier-off those footpaths referred to in the formal notice (available below).
Consultation
A consultation period was held during April and May 2008, which has now closed.
The County Council will take all comments into account before making its final decision as to whether to proceed with the Gating Order. If confirmed, works should be able to commence this Summer.
It should be noted that whilst the majority of crimes occur in the evening, some do occur at other times. For this reason along with operational reasons it has not been possible to accommodate a part time closure. The closure proposed is therefore for 24 hours -7 days a week. However, those requiring access to their premises will be able to obtain a key from Mansfield District Council to allow this.
It is regretted that some genuine users of these footpaths may be inconvenienced somewhat, however it is considered that the benefits to crime and disorder reduction will outweigh this disbenefit. In this respect the effect of the closures will be monitored and reviewed after 12 months.
