Nottinghamshire County Council Telecentre began in January 1996 as a Nottinghamshire County Council, Planning and Economic Development pilot project to test the concept of remote working and to offer employment and training opportunities to the north of the County where, due to mining closures, unemployment was high. It was intended that the Telecentre would provide clerical and administrative support to departments within the County Council using computer technology and advanced communications systems.

The Centre for Economic Development at Warsop Town Hall was chosen as a site for the project, particularly as it provided a venue for an existing computer training group from which Teleworkers could be recruited. A room was equipped with state of the art computers to create six work stations each linked to the County's Mainframe system and the Internet. One machine was also equipped with video conferencing facilities. A team of Teleworkers were recruited and embarked on an intensive training scheme provided by West Nottinghamshire College and the County Council's Denewood Centre.

The Telecentre now has eight workstations and is staffed by a manager, three skilled Teleworkers and three administration assistants.
