What is the Arnold Forum?Intergenerational Conference February 2005

The Forum is a partnership of people living or working in Arnold, committed to improving the town centre and its surrounding area.  This partnership includes representatives from different agencies and organisations such as the local authority, the police, healthcare providers and schools and businesses, as well as ‘normal’ people who represent the voluntary and community sector.

What does the Forum do?

The Forum has several sub groups which help focus its priorities and achieve results.

  • Golden Eagles - looking at the needs of older people. This group has successfully set up local exercise classes and is prioritising ‘inter generational work’ as one of their key work areas
  • Help Card of telephone numbers for local service provision
  • Arnold Business Forum – leading on activity supporting local businesses, for example in improving town centre marketing and contributing to Gedling Borough Council’s town centre plan
  • Arnold in Bloom – Encouraging local residents, schools and businesses to brighten up Arnold. Hold an annual competition for the best dressed garden/frontage
  • Annual maintenance of 2 flower planters (3-tier) set in Eagle Square and outside ASDA on the High Street
  • Golden Amblers – organised walks by trained walk leaders for the over 50s.  Walks are graded from short and easy to long and difficult rambles
  • Visit Arnold Forum for detailed calendar events
  • Communications, Marketing and Publicity – raising the profile of the Forum and ensuring the local community are kept up to date with Forum and other events through the ‘The Forum’ quarterly newsletter
  • Young People - link in with Nottinghamshire County Council's youth service, church youth groups and the Gedling District Youth Assembly to support local activities.

Why should I join?

  • You will get the chance to:
  • Have your say on local issues, for instance commenting on town centre plans, transport improvements, police initiatives
  • Contribute to the development and delivery of Gedling’s community strategy
  • Join the Forum’s sub groups or even create new ones to lobby on issues and develop projects important to you!
  • Network and raise the local profile of the group you represent
  • Apply for Forum funding for work benefiting local people that your group is carrying out.
