Launching on 1 April, the QIA's Excellence Gateway is a new web portal providing a single access point to examples of effective practice, netwoprks to support self-improvement and resources, tools and materials to support teaching and learning.

The key components of the new portal include the incorporation of established services such as the ALI's Excalibur, Becta's Learning and Skills Web as well as the QIA's Improvement Services Directory. Other services, such as FERL and ACLearn, will continue to exist as sister services on the site and will be fully integrated within six months.

PALS is a partnership between Dyslexia Action and Nottingham Probation Service. PALS works with offenders on a community order and offers assessments, tuition and national awards in literacy and numeracy. PALS provides Basic Skills Dyslexia and ESOL tuition on probation sites. The purpose of having in house provision is to give these hard to reach students a positive experience of adult education tailored to their individual needs. After assessment an ILP is agreed and students attend weekly. This second chance of gaining improvements in literacy, numeracy, confidence leads to greater employability.

Works alongside the Probation ACCESS team of employment officers who support offenders with job preparation, job search, disclosure and CV's.
