This year (2008/09) the services that the county council pays for will cost £453m. An additional £420m is spent on schools, but this is funded directly by a grant from central government. Councillors are now beginning to think about future spending priorities and are keen to try and keep Council Tax increase to just 3% this year. If the Council were to increase council tax by a further 1% (about 17p a week on a band B property) this would bring in an extra £2.9m a year. |
