Mansfield transport study

Travel and transport in Mansfield

White Hart Street at MansfieldIn 2003 Nottinghamshire County Council began a transport study in Mansfield.  We asked for your views on transport issues in and around the town.

The study was promoted in partnership with Mansfield District Council and Mansfield Area Strategic Partnership (MASP).  Over 11,000 questionnaires were sent out to stakeholders and households in the area. This was followed by a public exhibition in the Four Seasons shopping centre and subsequently in several residential locations.

From the consultation a wide range of issues were highlighted, the main ones being listed below:

Public Transport

  • Poor public transport links to Sherwood Business Park
  • Need for additional Hackney Carriage stands in town centre
  • Need to reallocate road space to provide bus lanes
  • Improve bus stop environment
  • Insufficient information relating to bus times/ stop locations

Disabled parking

  • Improve disabled parking facilities close to the town centre

Pedestrian routes

  • Improve pedestrian routes within the town centre e.g. Eclipse yard

Access to the town centre

  • Difficulty in accessing Mansfield and local services from more rural areas.

Better management of the transport network

  • Removal of traffic from Clumber Street, particularly pertinent to evenings

After analysing the information from the consultation, schemes have been developed to address the issues. These include:

Public transport

  • Mansfield Bus station. (longer term)
  • Improvements to bus stops in the town centre. (longer term)

Disabled parking

  • Dedicated parking as part of the White Hart Street/ Church Street scheme

Pedestrian routes

  • White Hart Street / Church Street. Pedestrian improvement scheme.
