Kimberley Transport Study
Kimberley town centre has a very important role to play by attracting new jobs and providing important goods and services. We would like to help ensure that it thrives and improves.
We are, however, also concerned about making sure that we do not increase congestion or road accidents, or worsen air quality. We also want to ensure that all members of the community can access the goods and services provided by the town centre.
As part of our Local Transport Plan we are looking at ways to give people more travel choices. In other words we are looking at how we can help walking, cycling and travel by bus easier, quicker and safer. This will also take some of the pressure off our roads.
Our Kimberley transport study is about finding out what are the transport issues that matter to local people. It might be a need for more pedestrian crossings, better access for those with disabilities or more cycle parking.
How can we improve travel and transport in Kimberley ?
During autumn 2007 the County Council asked residents and local community groups how we can make travel and transport better in Kimberley. We asked residents and traders to consider:
Walking
- How could pedestrian facilities be improved?
Cycling
- How could cycling facilities be improved?
Shopping
- What can we do to improve the town centre to encourage people to shop local and support local businesses?
The County Council has analysed all of the responses we received and has produced a report summarising the results of the consultation [PDF 800KB] .
The report also gives details of the seven actions that the County Council has agreed to do. Work has already begun on some of these actions, and we hope to be able to discuss these proposals with residents and community groups later in the year. Details will also be published on this web page when they become available.
