A scheme to improve road and footways on Bridge Street, Church Side and part of Midworth Street is planned to revitalise this part of Mansfield town centre.

The design will be of a similar style to the recent improvements on Church Street and White Hart Street, using high quality materials to complement the conservation and heritage of the town.

The new layout features traffic calming on Church Side and Midworth Street. This will reduce the speed of traffic and create a safer environment. There will be a new zebra crossing at the top of Church Side and footways will be widened where possible to make the area more attractive and improve accessibility for pedestrians, shoppers and visitors alike.

Local businesses are currently being consulted to gain their views on the management and restrictions of the proposed parking bays.

The carriageway will also be re-surfaced which will vastly improve the visual appearance of the area.

Works are proposed to start on site in Spring 2009.

Planned works by National Grid to renew part of the gas main prior to resurfacing the road will take place in advance of the main improvement works.

This website will be updated as the project develops.
