Parking policy
Following a Report to Cabinet Member for Transport and Highways on 12 January 2010 the Council’s Supplementary Planning Guidance ‘Parking Provision For New Developments’ (May 2004) was withdrawn with immediate effect.
The County Council re-affirm its commitment to the parking policy as set out in Planning Policy Guidance 13 (Transport) and the East Midlands Regional Plan (March 2009).
The County Council has now adopted temporary residential parking standards as outlined in the Report to Cabinet Member for Transport and Highways on 12 January 2010 [PDF 52KB] until such time as each Local Planning Authority adopts its own standards through the Local Development Framework Process.
In addition, Nottinghamshire County Council has produced ‘Residential Car Parking Research for Nottinghamshire – Highway Development Control Guidance’ (February 2010). This document sets out to developers and others on the demand for car parking space on residential developments in Nottinghamshire. It should be noted that the philosophy and methodology used reflects that previously established in the DCLG ‘Residential Car Parking Research’ (2007).
Residential developments over five dwellings: We will normally expect you to apply the ‘ Residential Car Parking Research for Nottinghamshire – Highway Development Control Guidance’ (February 2010) [PDF 440KB] paper method to provide your initial estimate of parking demand before you submit a planning application. We will also expect you to supply details of how that demand will be met.
All other uses not covered by the County Council’s adopted guidance: 'Highways, transportation and development' ( http://www.leics.gov.uk/index/htd/highway_req_development_part3.htm) or National Guidance should be individually justified on a sound evidence base.
After reading the guidance, developers are advised to discuss their parking requirements and site specifications as early as possible with our Development Control Officers who will be happy to assist with any queries. They can be contacted as follows:
