Nottinghamshire County Council produce two local transport plans. The plans set out the aims, objectives and strategies for achieving more sustainable and integrated transport throughout Nottinghamshire. The current local transport plans are the second to be produced and cover the period 1 April 2006 to 31 March 2011.
The North Nottinghamshire Local Transport Plan covers the districts of Ashfield (excluding Hucknall), Bassetlaw, Mansfield and Newark & Sherwood. The Greater Nottingham.Local Transport Plan is developed in partnership with Nottingham City Council, and covers the Broxtowe, Gedling and Rushcliffe districts, as well as Hucknall and the City of Nottingham.
The aims and objectives of the second local transport plans have been developed both nationally and locally. Nationally, the objectives were developed through the Department for Transport and Local Government Association. Locally, through consultation the plans have also been developed to take account of what local people feel is important.
Nationally, four objectives were determined which all local authorities in the country must address within their transport plans. These are:
- Improving accessibility to services
- Improving road safety
- Reducing congestion
- Improving air quality.
As a result of consultation, the County Council has also adopted three local objectives which the public and stakeholders felt were important. These are:
- Improving quality of life (such as health, the physical environment and safety)
- Regenerating less well-off areas
- Making best use of the existing highway network.
The local transport plans identify the problems and opportunities within each of these areas. They also detail the transport strategy to meet each of the objectives during the period April 2006 to March 2011.

North Nottinghamshire Local Transport Plan
North Nottinghamshire Strategic Environmental AssessmentAs part of the development of the local transport plans, the County Council also looks at the effects that the local transport plans will have on the environment. This includes issues such as noise levels, air pollution, wildlife and climate change. It also includes how transport affects health, crime and accessibility. This process is known as the strategic environmental assessment.

North Nottinghamshire Accessibility StrategyAccessibility strategies are an integral part of the second local transport plans. The strategies detail the work the Council and its partners has undertaken to understand the problems people have accessing key services, such as work, training, healthcare, shops and leisure facilities, and identifies actions to improve access to these services.
North Nottinghamshire Delivery Report
In July 2006 the County Council produced a five year local transport plan delivery report. Greater Nottingham Local Transport PlanYou can download a summary of the Local Transport Plan [PDF 30KB]  The Greater Nottingham Plan has been developed in partnership with Nottingham City Council. You can download the Greater Nottingham Plan, covering the Broxtowe, Gedling and Rushcliffe districts, as well as Hucknall and the City of Nottingham, by individual chapters.

Greater Nottingham air quality management areas
Air quality management areas are declared where assessment and monitoring highlights that acceptable levels of air pollutants have been exceeded. Rushcliffe Borough Council has declared two transport related air quality management areas around Lady Bay Bridge and Trent Bridge and the County Council is working with Rushcliffe Borough Council to address these.
