Road safety and horses
If, while driving, you see a horse rider on the road:
- Slow down, give them plenty of room and be prepared to stop
- Don’t sound your horn or rev your engine
- Don’t try to pass them unless you can give them a wide berth
- Treat horses as a potential hazard and expect the unexpected.
There are around 150 accidents involving horses on the road every year, resulting in an average of 2 deaths and 130 injuries to riders. For more information visit www.thinkroadsafety.gov.uk/campaigns/horsesense.horsesense.htm
