New office at Sherwood Energy Village, Ollerton
Plans for our move to Ollerton have finally come to fruition and staff from our Highways North area offices at Newark, Retford and Etwall House (Sutton in Ashfield) will be moving to the Sherwood Energy Village week commencing 14 July 2008.
The reasons for the move centre around our need to replace older, less efficient buildings with facilities that provide better working conditions for staff. The Sherwood Energy Village site also offers the opportunities to develop more efficient and integrated working practices and better communication within our services.
Bringing colleagues across Highways together will be a real step forward in helping us to provide the best service we can. Better IT and the proximity of people doing related work will help us provide more joined-up and efficient services for the benefit of communities across North Nottinghamshire.
The Ollerton Office is a new building which provides a modern sustainable and flexible working environment, making efficient use of the space and resources available, and our official address will be:-
Communities Dept. Highways North “Bevercotes House” Fountain Court Darwin Drive Sherwood Energy Village Ollerton Notts NG22 9GS
General telephone queries should of course still be directed to the Customer Services Centre – 08449 808080.
Please note also that the County Council will actually have 4 separate buildings on the campus, holding staff from various departments. The reception for all 4 buildings lies on the opposite side of the road to the Highways office in “Welbeck House”. A security system is in operation and therefore visitors should report to Welbeck House reception, where they will be escorted to the Highways office if necessary.

School Travel Plans
School Travel Plans aim to reduce congestion, encourage walking and cycling and improve road safety in the vicinity of schools. Individual schools address the problems identified by their own school community with the support of the School Travel Plan team.
Two events to celebrate and publicise the achievements of School Travel Plans are to be held at County Hall on 8 July and at the Dukeries Centre, Ollerton on 9 July.
Road Safety Education
The area road safety quiz finals took place on 3 June, with the eventual winners for Bassetlaw being Ramsden Primary.
Cycle training continues right up to the start of the summer holidays in many schools with Year 6 children being trained to ride their bikes safely on the road, and raise their awareness of the Highway Code to encourage them to use their bikes as a means of transport as they grow up.
School Crossing Patrols
There are currently vacancies for permanent patrols in Blyth and Worksop and vacancies for relief patrols throughout the areas. If you, or anyone you know, are aged over 18 and would like to join our team of patrols carrying out a vital role in assisting the safety of schoolchildren, please contact the Road Safety Office on 01777 706040.
