Mansfield and Ashfield areas
July/August 2008
Technical Services Manager - Peter Thom

New Office at Sherwood Energy Village, Ollerton
Plans for our move to Ollerton have finally come to fruition and staff from our Highways North area offices at Newark, Retford and Etwall House (Sutton in Ashfield) will be moving to the Sherwood Energy Village week commencing 14 July 2008.
The reasons for the move centre around our need to replace older, less efficient buildings with facilities that provide better working conditions for staff. The Sherwood Energy Village site also offers the opportunities to develop more efficient and integrated working practices and better communication within our services.
Bringing colleagues across Highways together will be a real step forward in helping us to provide the best service we can. Better IT and the proximity of people doing related work will help us provide more joined-up and efficient services for the benefit of communities across north Nottinghamshire.
The Ollerton Office is a new building which provides a modern sustainable and flexible working environment, making efficient use of the space and resources available, and our official address will be:-
Communities Dept. Highways North, "Bevercotes House," Fountain Court, Darwin Drive, Sherwood Energy Village, Ollerton, Notts NG22 9GS.
General telephone queries should of course still be directed to the
Customer Services Centre - 08449 808080.
(See following item for more details)
Please note also that the County Council will actually have 4 separate buildings on the campus, holding staff from various departments. The reception for all 4 buildings lies on the opposite side of the road to the Highways office in “Welbeck House”. A security system is in operation and therefore visitors should report to Welbeck House reception, where they will be escorted to the Highways office if necessary.

New Customer Service Centre for all who live in Nottinghamshire
Nottinghamshire County Council is launching an eye-catching publicity campaign to encourage local people to get in touch – as it’s brand new ‘golden number’ went live two weeks ago,
The new number – 08449 80 80 80 – was launched to the public on Monday 30 June. People who phone the number will speak to one of the County Council’s trained customer service centre advisors and can get advice and information about over 300 County Council services.
Calls will go through to the County Council’s customer service centre, which is based at Sherwood Business Park in Ashfield. The staff aim to answer 80% of queries at this first point of contact. If they need to find out more information, they won’t just pass them on to someone else, but will investigate the enquiry themselves and get back in touch with the customer.
The publicity campaign plays on the words ‘in Notts’ by using a variety of images tied up in knots, which will feature on meals at home vans and other County Council vehicles, buses, bill boards, posters and leaflets around the county. Some of the people featured in the images are County Council staff. There will also be a radio advertising campaign to promote the new number and encourage people to get in touch with the County Council.
The launch also coincided with the publication of a brand new A – Z booklet, which will detail all County Council and district council services and how to get in touch to find out more. The booklet has been posted to all Nottinghamshire homes date commencing 30 June.
Councillor Mick Storey, Deputy Leader at Nottinghamshire County Council, said: “The launch of this number will make it so much easier for local people to get in touch with us about a whole range of County Council services, including recycling, libraries, schools, services for older people, street lights and potholes. Residents will also be able to talk to a real person, who will aim to answer their questions straight away and will get back in touch with the information if they can’t. We believe this will take out the frustration that people may have felt in the past when they didn’t know who to contact and they got passed from pillar to post.
“Not only will the customer service centre make things easier for local people, but it has also created 120 plus jobs in Ashfield – one of the more deprived areas of the county.”
The customer service centre is open from 8am to 8pm Monday to Friday and from 8am to 12 noon on Saturdays. It is closed on Sundays and bank holidays.
Calls to 08449 80 80 80 cost 3p per minute from a BT land line regardless of the location and the time of day the call is made. Call charges from other operators and mobile phones may vary.
