Highway Design Guide
New Highway Design Guide 'Highways, transportation and development' (Htd) adopted by Nottinghamshire County Council 1 April 2009.
As of 1 April 2009 Nottinghamshire County Council will adopt the new highway design guidance entitled Highways, transportation and development’ (Htd) and as such this document will replace Nottinghamshire County Council’s current Highway Design Guide (Jan 1999) and the General Specification for Roadwork’s (1989).
Htd is already adopted by Leicestershire County Council, Derbyshire County Council and Leicester City Council. Derby City Council and Nottingham City Council have also expressed interest in adopting Htd.
The Highway Design Guide sets out the general principles and minimum standards for the layout and dimensions of highways and paved areas in residential and industrial developments for which Nottinghamshire County Council is the Highway Authority and for which the Planning Authorities are:
- Ashfield District Council
- Bassetlaw District Council
- Broxtowe Borough Council
- Gedling Borough Council
- Mansfield District Council
- Newark and Sherwood District Council
- Rushcliffe Borough Council.
It should not be seen as a prescriptive solution to all road layouts. The aim has been to provide a broad framework within which development of a high standard of road safety and environmental quality can take place to the benefit of all members of the community. The standards are not inflexible. In particular circumstances where it is desirable to complement the character of existing development – such as conservation areas – departures may be allowed provided that they are still consistent with the general aim of this document
