Dropped kerbs
To get your vehicle from the road and onto your drive or hard standing you will need a properly constructed 'vehicular crossing', sometimes called a 'dropped kerb'. This is to prevent damage to the pavement and/or verge and also protects underground pipes and cables. We need to ensure that all dropped kerbs are constructed to a satisfactory standard and have in place a procedure, which must be followed.
Planning permission
If you want a dropped kerb outside your property you will need the approval of the County Council. In addition, if the property is on an A or B road, or some C roads, planning permission will be required from your local district council. Please contact your district council for more information.
Who can install a dropped kerb
A dropped kerb can only be carried out by us or contractors appointed by us. If work is carried out by anyone else, we will charge for both rectifying the original work and installing a new dropped kerb.
How to get the work done
You should contact us on tel: 08449 80 80 80. We will provide a quotation for the works. You must provide a copy of the Planning Approval, if applicable.
We will then arrange for the work to be carried out and will maintain the crossing as part of the road after it has been constructed.
When we carry out major maintenance work on the road outside your property, you will be given the opportunity of having a standard dropped kerb constructed at the same time at no cost to yourself. Residents are contacted at the time concerning this offer.
