What does ‘independent sector’ mean?

The independent sector means any organisation that has a contract with either the City Council or County Council to provide care.

This can include voluntary organisations as well as private residential homes and home care providers.

What do we do for the independent sector?

The workforce planning and development teams work together to support the independent sector in a number of ways. We:

• provide resources and toolkits to help you improve the way you work
• can visit you to help with your workforce plan and staffing issues
• offer support to complete your National Minimum Data Set for social care
• provide free training on a wide range of topics relevant to care
• arrange work placements and apprenticeships
• work closely with our quality development officers to help you improve the quality of your care
• run events and workshops on subjects you have told us you need support with
• keep you informed about the latest projects and support through emails, newsletters, and events, such as the Local Links for Care forums.
