What is Putting People First?

Putting People First is the Government’s vision for the future direction of adult social care. The main aim is to increase the choice and control people have in deciding how their needs are met.

The Government wants all councils to have made good progress by 2011. We are starting the change now.

What does Putting People First cover?

The Putting People First programme in Nottinghamshire covers a wide range of projects aimed at increasing the choice and control of adults in need of social care. These include:

  • Improved prevention and early intervention - people want the right help at the right time before they reach a crisis
  • Services to promote independence and help people stay at home - people expect services to be available to them quickly, easily and fit into their lives
  • Recognising the importance of the carer's role - we need to increase the range of support to carers
  • Easy access to information, advocacy and advice - people want this so they can make informed choices, regardless of circumstances
  • Self Directed Support - people want a transparent and equitable way of getting the support they need and one that gives them choice and control
  • Services - people want a range of good quality services to choose from with highly skilled and empowered staff
  • Improvement and efficiency savings - we need to find better and simpler systems to reduce duplication and unnecessary paperwork.

To help you find out about Putting People First we have collected together a range of publications and websites that tell you more.

We will be holding a wide range of events to explain to people in person what Putting People First means for them. There will also be training for our staff to enable them to meet the challenges involved.

As the various projects develop we will be adding more information to these pages. Please check back regularly for the latest updates.
