How do I get a service?

Not all services are available to everyone. Contact the services directly to find out:

  • whether the service is available in your area
  • if there is a charge
  • how old you need to be to receive the service.

This web portal provides information on services, activities and organisations for people who are aged over 50 and living in Nottinghamshire www.notts50plus.co.uk

First Contact Signposting Scheme

First Contact enables older people to access services through a single point of contact.

Resource centres for people over 50

Older people can just call in for information and advice, or stay longer and enjoy the opportunities and activities on offer. Light refreshments and a freshly cooked two course lunch is available at low cost. Click on the links below for more information about individual resource centres.

Handypersons scheme

Help with odd jobs around the home such as fitting curtains, putting up shelves and fixing leaky taps.

Preventative adaptations scheme (PAS)

Minor adaptations in the home such as a grab rail, stair rail or other safety features to give confidence when getting around your home.

Approved traders scheme

Anyone can use the Buy with Confidence website to find a local trader that has been vetted by Trading Standards.

You can also telephone Consumer Direct on 08454 04 05 06 to find reliable traders in your area.

Gardening

Grass cutting, weeding and low hedge cutting at an affordable rate. Click on the links below for more information about individual gardening schemes.

Shopping in Mansfield and Ashfield

Information and advice about local shops and services or voluntary help with shopping needs for older people living in Mansfield or Ashfield.

Transport

Transport to Health in Bassetlaw provides information on transport to enable people to get to hospitals, clinics, opticians, dentists and doctors. tel: 0844 980 0014

Activity Friends

Activity Friends is a volunteer programme for the over 50’s designed to help people achieve a healthier lifestyle through increasing physical activity and befriending to reduce social isolation.

Post Intermediate Care - Bassetlaw

Volunteers support people aged 50 plus to live safely and comfortably in their own homes after leaving hospital or residential care. Contact Sam Ward for further information. tel: 017778 707547 email: bassetlaw@wrvs.org.uk

IT Champions

Notts 50plus is looking for people over 50 to help with training people to use computers and getting more people over 50 to use computers. Contact Rachel Hind, Community IT Champions Co-ordinator for more information. tel: 01623 727600 email: rhind@nottsrcc.org.uk

Research project

Joint teams

The Pensions Service, Adult Social Care and Health Financial Services and Housing Benefit/Council Tax departments of the District and Borough Councils are now working together in joint teams so that from one contact you can get help with a range of benefits.

Community Outreach Advisers (COA)

Community Outreach Advisers reach people who are isolated or socially excluded and would otherwise not use Notts 50plus services.
