Services for people with a visual impairment
Who can get help?
Adults with a visual impairment can get help.
You do not need to be registered blind or partially sighted.
If you want to be registered, talk to your GP. Ask them to refer you to the consultant opthalmologist at the Eye Clinic in your local hospital.
What sort of help might you get?
There are a range of services you may be entitled to, such as
You may need more specialist advice and support. If so, someone from the Adult Deaf and Visual Impairment Service will visit you. They can help you with:
- re-learning skills in daily living e.g. preparing meals
- developing mobility skills e.g. travelling independently
- access to other services e.g. guide dogs, talking books
- advice about, and provision of, specialist equipment
- communication skills e.g. Braille, Moon.
How much will I have to pay?
Some of our services are provided free. If there is a charge, how much you pay depends on your circumstances. We will explain any charges before you start getting a service.
