What is the Adult Placement Scheme?
The scheme is part of the Nottinghamshire County Council's Adult Social Care and Health Department. We recruit carers across Nottinghamshire to provide home based support for adults with learning disabilities.
The scheme makes sure that adult placement carers:
- are approved and trained
- have the skills needed to support people to make choices about how they want to live their life
- homes are checked to ensure they are safe and healthy
Who is the Adult Placement Scheme for?
The scheme is for people who:
- live in Nottinghamshire
- are aged 18 or over
- have moderate to severe learning disabilities.
We may be able to support you if:
- you want to live as part of a family
- you want support and a place to stay while waiting to move into supported living
- your own family or carers want to take a break or holiday
- your carer is ill or needs a rest.
How will I know if adult placement will be right for me?
We know that everyone is different. The people you want to be with and the way you want to live is special to you. So we will:
- talk to you and your family to find out what is important to you and what support you need
- try to find an adult placement carer who could best support you
- arrange for you to spend some time with the adult placement carer so you can get to know them and their family
- offer you several meetings before deciding whether you want to stay with the carer.
What can I expect from the scheme?
You can expect:
- the support needed to make choices about how you live your life
- to have a safe and healthy place to live or stay
- that your carer is trained and supported to meet your needs
- to have your own room and private space.
Yes. There is a charge for staying with an adult placement scheme carer in their home.
You will need to have a financial assessment to decide how much you will need to pay towards the cost of your stay. For this we will need to know about your income and any money you have saved.
There is no charge for your introductory visits.
