A break from caring
If you help to support an adult to live in their own home, you may qualify for extra short break services through the Carer's Demonstration Site project.
The person you support could be elderly or frail; have a disability or long-term illness; have mental health needs or have problems misusing drugs or alcohol.

Who can apply for a break from caring?
You can apply for a break if:
- you have had a carer's assessment.
To get a carer's assessment contact our Customer Service Centre - the person you care for lives in Nottinghamshire (excluding Nottingham City).
What breaks are available?
Joint and separate breaks
You can have a break on your own or get support to have a break with the person you care for.
Age Concern are offering breaks to a range of older people including frail older people with dementia and people with long term conditions in the Mansfield and Ashfield area.

Help for carers who look after people with dementia
North Notts Crossroads are offering breaks for those supporting people with dementia in Bassetlaw, Newark and Sherwood.

Crisis prevention
North Notts and East Midlands Crossroads aim to support carers who need an unplanned break which could possibly be due to an emergency situation or to prevent a crisis occurring.

Help for carers who look after people nearing end of life
Central Notts Clinical Services and North Notts Crossroads are offering support and breaks for carers supporting a person in the last twelve months of their life. This service is offered in the Ashfield and Mansfield areas.

Community and voluntary groups
Rushcliffe Community and Voluntary Service is working with carers in the Black and Minority Ethnic communities in Rushcliffe, Broxtowe and Gedling districts.

The breaks on this page are funded by the Department of Health until March 2011. They are organised by Nottinghamshire County Council in partnership with NHS Nottinghamshire County and Bassetlaw Primary Care Trust.
