Photo of old documents from the archives. Would you like to learn more about the history of your family? Join us for a series of introductory classes which will give you the know-how to trace your family's past.

The classes are designed for beginners and first-time family historians. There are five sessions in total, covering census returns, using the internet for research, probate records, and a look at the more unusual sources of information that can by useful to someone digging through the past.

About the classes

Classes take place at the Nottinghamshire Archives (County House, Castle Meadow Road, Nottingham, NG2 1AG) each Tuesday for five weeks, starting on 29 July. The cost is £3 per session or £13 for all five.

  • 12 August 5.30-6.30pm Family History & the Internet - Peter Lester
  • 19 August 5.30-6.30pm Probate Records - Mark Dorrington
  • 26 August 5.30-6.30pm ‘Digging Deeper’ - Chris Weir

Classes must be booked in advance - telephone the archives team on tel: 0115 958 1634 to enquire about places. To make a booking, complete the booking form and send it with your payment to the address indicated on the form. Advance payment is required and is non-refundable.

The archives are open until 7.15pm on Tuesdays, so particpants can stay on to do some research in the public search room.
