Watch Nicky weave a web of fictional magic

If the last time you listened to a story told out loud was as a child, then you’re really missing out. Live storytelling is becoming an increasingly popular art form – and we're not just talking children's fairytales here.

After all, the need to tell stories is an integral part of the human condition; we use them to make sense of the world and the lives we live. But besides all that, it's simply a great form of entertainment.

Watch our video of Nicky Rafferty below, showing how it's done. We defy you not to be completely captivated! Nicky was telling stories at Nottinghamshire libraries throughout October.

And if you fancy having a go yourself, visit the National Year of Reading website where comedian, Jon Culshaw, launches the Telling Tales competition to find the country’s most enthusiastic amateur storyteller: www.yearofreading.org.uk/index.php?id=tellingtales
