Old MacDonald had a flight - ee i ee i oh!
A much loved children’s book has been on a 1,000 mile air trip before being returned to West Bridgford library thanks to book-loving Easyjet pilot Chris Lightfoot.
The fictional farmer arrived at East Midlands Airport on a flight from Geneva but probably started his journey in Barcelona before being left under a seat. Thankfully he did not have any cows, sheep or foreign meat products with him.
Pilot Chris is a keen reader and spotted the forgotten book whilst inspecting the cabin after a flight from Geneva.
"I’ve got a one year old son and I read to him whenever I get the chance. I know how kids love certain stories so I wanted to make sure this book got back to its rightful owner. I posted it back to the address on the library sticker. Reading to children is a good idea on a flight as it calms and settles them."
The book is one of the favourite loans from West Bridgford library where children have been taking the Summer Holiday Reading Challenge very seriously.
"We’ve challenged all children to read six library books this summer holiday,” says librarian Lin Turner based at West Bridgford. “Someone has obviously taken this literally and took Old MacDonald on their summer holiday. We don’t charge parents for books lost by under fives so it’s great when one is found and returned."
Easyjet pilot Chris is an avid reader and prefers books to TV. He reads a book a week but his all time favourite is 'Fate is the Hunter' by Ernest Gann- a biography about an airline and military pilot in 1940s America.
"It’s possibly my most favourite book. It also inspired me to become a pilot myself so I can't recommend it enough!"
