Boys into books
Primary Boys into Books is a national campaign that was officially launched during National Year of Reading by Schools Minister, Jim Knight, in June 2008. The £5 million scheme is run by the Department for Children, Schools and Families, and enables libraries to select free books from the Riveting Reads book lists drawn-up by the School Library Association, to send to schools in their area.
We supported the campaign locally throughout the National Year of Reading with a range of imaginative events, competitions and displays, organised by libraries across the county, which were designed to appeal particularly to boys aged between 8 and 11.
From bonkers experiments among the bookshelves to alien art and potty poetry, there was something to inspire any boy to get into books during National Year of Reading.
