Volunteers

Volunteering Opportunity for Young People 14 – 17 years

Nottinghamshire Libraries are looking for a team of volunteers to act as reading friends to children aged 4 -12 years taking part in the Summer Reading Challenge this summer.

All of our 60 libraries offer the Challenge which starts on 18 July 2009 and runs thoughout the summer holidays. This year’s theme is ‘Quest Seekers’. Children will embark on a fantastical adventure. Their quest is to find the golden book.  The idea behind the challenge is to encourage reading for fun. Along the way children receive ‘rewards’ e.g. collector cards, stickers, medal, certificate. The reading friends will be on hand to join children to the challenge, talk to them about what they have read, help them choose other books to read and assist with activities.

Volunteers will be offered training and will be asked to commit to 10-15 hours volunteer activity over the summer holiday in their local library. Training will be offered at several locations across the county in July.

If you are interested in this opportunity, please contact Carolyn Gallagher on Tel. 0115 920 2247 or email carolyn.gallagher@nottscc.gov.uk for an application form. Last date for applications is 12 July 2009.
