Walking
Nottinghamshire is full of great countryside walks to enjoy.
Walkers can use footpaths, bridleways, restricted byways and byways to explore the countryside as well as Access Land. For more information on your rights of access in the countryside visit our rights of way pages.
Countryside walks
If you want a short to moderate walk in the countryside, a circular walk, or if you want to explore somewhere new but are not sure where to go, then our guided walks brochure [PDF 674KB] or self-guided walks packs could be just the thing. We have packs covering most areas of the county - including Sherwood Forest.
Or for walks in your area visit RouteXchange online interactive routes forum. If you've got a favourite walk why not submit it for others to try out. You can search RouteXchange for walks accessible to all as well as short walks for the kids or walks without stiles for the dog.
Long distance routes
We also have two long distance routes within Nottinghamshire:
- The Robin Hood Way
- The Trent Valley Way.
Both of these routes are indicated on Ordnance Survey maps of the area, and a companion publication Robin Hood Walks is available for the Robin Hood Way (available from Nottinghamshire County Council). For information about the Robin Hood Way, please visit the Robin Hood Way Association website: www.robinhoodway.co.uk.
Accessible walks
There are also walks accessible to all within the Greenwood Community Forest, and these walks are available in two packs – Greenwood Walks One and Two. For more information visit: www.greenwoodforest.org.uk.
Walking publications
For more information or to order any of these publications please contact us.
Walk Week
Each year Nottinghamshire County Council co-ordinates Walk Week, a collection of walks for all ages and abilities. This year, walk week runs from Saturday 17th May to Monday 26th May 2008. The week coincides with "Walk to School" week in May and draws in family walks over the May bank holiday. There is a dedicated website for Walk Week 2008 that gives more details about the events, and you can read more about Walk Week 2007.
