Play Sport
The ‘Play Sport’ project was one of the first projects of its kind in the country, delivering high quality coaching activities in multi-skill, non-sport specific sessions, an area of work which has been identified as a key priority locally and nationally.
The project hopes to leave a lasting legacy of good practice, new sustainable activity and positive experiences.
The multi-skill programme is being used across the county to raise awareness of the importance of Long Term Athlete Development (LTAD) and developing the Physical Literacy Skills of youngsters to ensure full and positive ‘lifelong’ participation in sport.
Six experienced full time coaches are employed throughout the county to 'help children begin a lifetime in sport'.
The project provides around 5,000 hours of coaching annually to young children in a range of areas such as:
- after school clubs
- voluntary sports clubs
- village halls
- Parish Council playing fields
- leisure centres
- further education colleges
- PE lessons
Practical Ideas CD-ROM
This learning resource has been compiled as an introduction to basic Multi-Skill activities and is designed to assist teachers and coaches with their planning.
The resource is an ideal support to teachers and coaches who have already attended FUNdamentals and Multi-Skills training.
The CD-ROM features practical examples of Multi-Skills activities featuring participants aged between 8-11 years; they have had little or no specific multi-skills coaching.
The CD-ROM also features participants with a disability and demonstrates inclusive adapted versions of some activities.
The CD-ROM can be ordered by downloading this form [PDF 60KB]
