Visual arts - exhibitions and galleries
Rufford Craft Centre
Rufford Craft Centre is set in the grounds of Rufford Abbey Country Park, close to Sherwood Forest. The abbey was later converted into a country house and more recently its stable block has become the Craft Centre. Run by the County Council the Craft centre has a regular programme of exhibitions with a special focus on ceramics. A contemporary Sculpture Trail is also situated in the park together with an outdoor exhibition space in the Orangery.
The craft centre also plays host to the annual Earth and Fire, festival of ceramics on the last weekend in June. With 100 potters from Britain and Europe selling their work from market stalls direct to the public, artists demonstrating their working practices and children participating in craft activities, Earth and Fire is the leading event of its type in the country.
