Wheels of Fortune - The Story of Raleigh Cycles of Nottingham
This new exhibition tells the story of Raleigh Cycles of Nottingham, from the records held here at the Archives.
Raleigh Cycles have long been associated with Nottingham and their products exported around the world. From their humble beginnings on Raleigh Street to the creation of a global empire, Raleigh became a household name. The creation of the ‘All-Steel Bicycle’, the incorporation of three-speed gear hubs, and the success of champion cyclists like Reg Harris all contributed to the company’s success. In more recent years, their reputation was further enhanced by the production of such popular machines as the Chopper and BMX.
This online exhibition complements the major exhibition 'Wheels of Fortune: The Story of Raleigh Cycles of Nottingham' which was displayed at the Weston Gallery, Lakeside Arts Centre, University of Nottingham from April to August 2008.
It is divided into various themes. Please use the links in the menu on the left hand side to navigate through the areas you wish to explore.
