Broad Marsh and Narrow Marsh developed on the south side of Nottingham in a low-lying area by the River Leen. The area expanded into one of the most highly-populated parts of the city by the nineteenth century, notorious for its network of overcrowded yards and alleys. Yet it was also a flourishing community with a wide variety of busy shops and services.
This exhibition charts the development of the Marshes over time. The images not only provide an historical insight into the Marshes, but may also evoke feelings and memories of living in the area, or just walking through its maze of old streets.
