African-Caribbean presence

The earliest known reference at Nottinghamshire Archives to an African Caribbean person dates back to 1645. Early references such as this are only glimpses provided in parish and charity records, and in correspondence. Together these glimpses offer a small but important picture of the presence of black people within Nottinghamshire at this time.
