The Gandy Family: Mothering sunday card, early twentieth century
Reference: DD 2243/75/7
Edward Gandy and Caroline Gamble were married in 1901 and had five daughters – Nellie, Carrie, Mary, Margaret and Phyllis. The family lived in West Bridgford. Only Mary married and left the family home.
The family saved a large amount of personal correspondence and their papers present a social history of an ordinary family living through changing times.
The Gandy Family collection, which dates between circa 1896 and 1999, also includes accounts and a large number of greetings cards. The cards provide a good illustration of changing styles and tastes.
This Mothering Sunday card is signed by Carrie and Margaret.
