Valentine's letter, c 1910

Valentine's Letter, c 1910

Reference: DD2400/1

This letter is part of the very small collection of records for the Baldock family of Nottingham. It was written to Olive Muriel Alice Webb, who later married into the Baldock family.

In the letter, written in about 1910, the writer compares the object of his affections to Ophelia, Hamlet's girlfriend in Shakespeare's play. He comments that her 'grace without pride' is rarely seen in 'one so young and fair'. He acknowledges, however, that he is 'not the only one who adores you', and the reader understands that he is an admirer from afar.
