Heraldic pedigree or family tree of the Botiler and Hutchinson families of Owthorpe, 1712
Reference: M 5416
Family history is a popular pastime and many genealogists undertake research in order to produce a family tree or pedigree, showing their ancestors as far back in history as they can get.
However, producing a family tree is not a new pastime as families in the past would create often lavish pedigrees in order to show off their noble ancestry. These pedigrees often feature the coats of arms and other heraldic devices of barons and lords.
This highly decorated pedigree belongs to the Botiler and Hutchinson families of Owthorpe in south Nottinghamshire. The pedigree, compiled by Thomas Brand in 1712, reaches back to the 'ancient Barons of Wem and Oversley'.
The pedigree is written on parchment using an array of colours and gold in the different coats of arms.
