A competition for young people aged 7 - 16
Nottinghamshire Archives wants to hear from you about what life is like for children and young people today. This competition will find the best diary writers, filmmakers, bloggers or podcasters in the county and city. Fantastic cash prizes of up to £300 for individual prize-winning entries and £750 for the prize-winning school, group or club must be won.
Entries should be for a single day between 8 February 2010 and 31 March 2010. Describe a special event, activity or just a normal day in your community. Use the diary to talk about your feelings, thoughts and opinions and what is important to you and your family. Entries can include drawings, photographs or the equivalent for podcasts and videos. It’s up to you whether the diary is serious or humorous but all entries must be true and not made-up.
Prizes are funded by Nottinghamshire Local History Association.
There are three categories for individual entries: age 7-10, age 11-13, age 14-16 and a fourth category for group, club or school entries. Selected entries will be added to the collections of Nottinghamshire Archives and will offer future historians a fascinating insight into the lives of young people.
A series of workshops are available around the county to give you a head start!
Find out how to enter and more on our diary competition pages.

Do you remember the Marshes?
Have you explored Nottinghamshire Archives' online exhibition on Broad Marsh and Narrow Marsh? The Marshes were among Nottingham's most notorious slums, full of dark courtyards and narrow alleys. But it was also a thriving community with busy shops and services.
Do you remember the Marshes? You can now share your memories online. Read what other people remember about this part of Nottingham on our Memories of the Marshes page. E-mail us with your memories and see them published here too! e-mail: archives@nottscc.gov.uk

1911 Census
The 1911 census is now no longer available at Nottinghamshire Archives.
The 1911 census was only available for a limited time. The National Archives had funded a limited number of credits so that seven archives across the country could provide free access for a limited time only. The length of time that these credits were available depended upon demand.
As the census has been very popular all the credits have now been used.
