Quality assurance sub-committee plays an important role in quality assuring the work of the Board and identified areas of multi-agency work around safeguarding. The group also has a specific role in monitoring progress against action plans agreed following serious case reviews. In 2007 the group reviewed its role and function in relation to the NSCB. This process will continue in 2008 as both local and national attention focuses on performance management of LSCBs.

Serious Case review panel. This important group fulfils the requirement for the Board to consider any cases of children who have died or are seriously injured and whose cases are thought to be close to the criteria for a serious case review. In the case of child deaths this is where abuse or neglect are known or suspected to be a factor. For serious injuries, the severity of the injury is considered alongside a range of factors including whether concerns existed around the way agencies worked together. In line with the direction of developments required by April 2008, the panel has moved over the year to consider, if briefly, all unexpected child deaths.

Serious Cases Review Panel this document is under review and will follow as soon as possible.

Vulnerable persons evidence group has continued to focus on a range of issues relating to the provision of evidence, at all stages of the process, in cases involving children and young people or vulnerable adults.
