Marilyn Monroe spent the first seven years of her life away from her mother with a foster family. It was a time when single parenthood was seen as shameful. Marilyn's mother did eventually raise the money to get a house and they were reunited.

Unfortunately her mother later became ill. Marilyn was taken to an orphanage and had other foster homes. By the time she was 15 years old, she had the choice of marriage or returning to the orphanage. She chose marriage.

None of these things stopped her from becoming probably one of the world's most famous beauties. She was also a famous actress and her films are still watched today.
