Introduction

Clayfields House is a mixed gender secure residential children’s home with 18 places available for children up to the age of 17. We are managed by Nottinghamshire County Council Children and Young People's Services. Our philosophy is that change is always possible and that even the most distressed, disenfranchised, and difficult to engage child, can make successful progress into a productive adulthood.

Mission

To provide the highest possible levels of care to the most vulnerable and demanding young people in the UK; and in addition undertake work to improve their life chances in terms of the 5 elements of “Every Child Matters”

  • Health
  • Education and Employment
  • Safeguarding from harm
  • Making a positive contribution
  • Enjoy and achieve

In order to achieve lasting change Clayfields works not only to manage existing difficult behaviours such as self harm, drug misuse, or violence, but to achieve long term positive change in terms of:

  • The cognitive and emotional resources available to each child
  • A child’s sense of self worth, dignity for self, and empathy with others
  • Educational and career aspirations by achieving nationally recognised GCSE qualifications or other equivalents
  • Improved behavioural blueprints that reduce the future potential to harm self or others
  • Reasoning and problem solving skills that can be applied to future difficulties, and allow the child to grasp responsibility for their own lives
